Biography

Cemi’i Can Deliorman (*1984) is an acclaimed young conductor from Turkey. In September 2010 he became Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the National Choir Turkey where he leads regular tours in Turkey as well as in Europe and he is often invited to distinguished symphony orchestras as guest conductor. From September 2017, he is appointed co – Conductor of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra.
Initially trained as a violinist, Deliorman graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria. In 2010, he received his Master’s degree in orchestral conducting with Martin Sieghart and in choral conducting with Johannes Prinz. He had the chance to study with renowned choral conductors like Dr. Joe Miller and Dr. James Jordan in Westminster Choir College in Princeton and work with the Westminster Symphonic Choir.
Deliorman conducted numerous concerts in the last years, including performances of Verdi Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Carmina Burana and Beethoven 9th.. Highlights of 2018-2019 Season include Gustav Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Adnan Saygun “Yunus Emre Oratorio” with the Cukurova Symphony Orchestra, Rachmaninov “Isle of Death” with Presidential Symphony Orchestra.
Deliorman continues to teach conducting at the Bahcesehir University Choral School and he is the author of the book “Gustav Mahler – Auferstehungssymphonie” released from Akademikerverlag in Germany.
His repertoire spans the great symphonic and choral-orchestral works – from Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Dvořák, Mahler, Rimsky-Korsakov, Franck and Orff – to rarities and premieres. He introduced Turkish audiences to cello concerti by Arthur Honegger and Erich Korngold and recorded Ligeti’s Chamber Concerto and Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. A strong advocate of contemporary music, he remains committed to championing new works and living composers.
In September 2023 Deliorman made his debut at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre with a programme including works by Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Respighi and Turkish composer Ferit Tüzün. His choral repertoire includes masterworks such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s and Fauré’s Requiems. Has also conducted staged productions of Verdi’s La traviata at the Mariinsky Theatre. Most recently he appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia for the opening concert of the Moscow Easter Festival, conducting alongside Valery Gergiev.
